First Day of Spring!

Roo & I had fun outside this afternoon,  walking  & “bike-riding”  & watching Christopher Robin do some needed staining for an essential home-remodeling project.  We just had easy meals today: Microwave eggs & homemade oatmeal for breakfast,  Leftover chicken stuffing bake for lunch, Grilled cheese/lettuce/turkey/pickles & salad for supper.  Hearing Roo’s laughter  from tickling during dinner  was pretty special. 😉

Thoughts re: Later-life Romance

Image
I felt some confidence in my last post since my husband & I feel good about our marriage and also since I’ve made it longer than his first wife did - although she was a cheater, so perhaps that’s not really saying much.😉 Anyhow, I definitely don’t feel like an expert regarding later-life romance … but having seen a little of that domain, a few things do come to mind. For instance,  •.Honesty - Don’t play the field. Whereas of course we can honorably have an unlimited number of friends, please do be careful not to pursue multiple men/women at the same time. You obviously can’t marry multiple people at the same time; so why give your heart simultaneously to several people, and why ask several people to simultaneously give their hearts to you? That is defrauding. It is adultery of the heart. • Compromise - Don’t expect the other person to perfectly adapt to you and your desires. Remember s/he is already established in his/her ways. They’re not gonna make huge life-changes just be...

Can you be too loyal to your spouse?

Image
https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/loyalty-very-important-relationship-wally-horton Excerpts from the article linked above: " Loyalty does not only mean physical fidelity, but it also includes emotional devotion.  Being loyal in every aspect of a couple’s life has many manifestations....  Here are some ways in which loyalty is expressed in love: * Bei ng loyal means being respectful of your partners’ weaknesses and discretely helping them compensate for those weaknesses. For example, if your mate is absent minded and loses her keys often, you may help her set a system to make it easier for her to find things and help her search, when needed, without anger or shaming.   * Being loyal means never saying anything that may shame your mate in private or public. “Well, she told someone she was sick, when she didn’t feel like entertaining.” Though this is a small offense, when it is revealed to others, it is shaming and disloyal.   *Being loyal means keeping confidences, witho...

Thoughts re: Romance

When I was growing up, I read a lot of books about dating & romantic relationships. The one thing that’s stuck with me the most and that’s proved the most profitable is Eric & Leslie Lucy’s ideas on the stages of intimacy (ie, “the two shall become one”): In dating, cultivate spiritual intimacy (friendship).  In engagement, cultivate emotional intimacy (romance).  In marriage, culminate your relationship with physical intimacy (sex).  And then continue to develop all 3 kinds of intimacy/one-ness for the rest of your life! Such a great strategy, with beautiful results! ❤️  For premarital counseling, we went through Focus on the Family’s “Ready to Wed” program. This program guides  soon-to-be-wed  couples through conversations about literally every part of life, which is so important when getting ready to join yourself to another person for life. This way, we entered marriage with, like, zero surprises. We knew each other very well and were best frien...

Safety in the Kitchen! ;)

This thumb-cut was a couple days ago, from a pumpkin that needed to be prepared for purée-ing (before it would’ve gone bad); and this index-finger-cut was from slicing a just-finished-cooking loaf of garlic bread for last night’s dinner.  I always try to be careful, but it seems impossible to avoid these occasional cuts, lol. 🤷‍♀️  Well, my mom was over yesterday and she recommended I use a serving fork to hold food in place, instead of using my fingers for that purpose.  And then this evening while I was busy making pan-fried flounder, hush puppies, & salad for tonight’s dinner, my husband recommended I use tongs to deposit food in the skillets - again, instead of using my fingers.  Sounds like some good advice, don’t ya think?! 😉
