Remember to Take Care of Kanga (Yourself) Too!

Please don’t look at this like a list of rules or a standard of good mothering or anything like that. This is just one mom sharing some blessings from her journey. Please comment with your own ideas for what blessed you in your journey! • Put your contacts in. You’ll feel more capable (and the  world’ll feel more manageable) once you can actually  see. πŸ˜‰ • Get dressed & do your makeup. You’ll probably be more confident & more productive all day! • If the doctor’s put you on some kind of mental health related medicine, then take it! God made science & medicine. I believe He wants us to use the legitimate & reasonable helps available in our world!  • Have breakfast. Both  physical & spiritual (see John 21:12a). You’ll need both physical & spiritual energy for the day! Coffee is a great physical proponent of this - just not in excess! Find some way of purposefully connecting with God each day. And if you have little kids, consider helping them start their day with

Mommy, wear your swimsuit and get in there with your kid! That’s what ended up making the difference for our boy! πŸ˜€

Mom-shaming

“I wish you’d let me buy Roo a wipe warmer. Can I buy him one? But I’d have to know you were gonna actually use it! All the good moms I know use them, and they make the best baby shower gifts, and any nursing home resident could tell you how jarring-ly cold the wipes are on their skin!”  I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard that little speech, with ever-increasing intensity, from someone I’d like to be able to turn to for love/support/encouragement, stuff like that.  But instead I get mom-shaming. Oh well, that’s life. If you’re a mom, then you’ve probably experienced it somewhere in your life too. It’s part of the mom-sisterhood experience. πŸ˜‰ Check out the article below for some wipe-warmer laughs: https://www.sheknows.com/parenting/articles/1066491/reasons-you-dont-need-to-buy-a-wipe-warmer/

Weaning Roo to Whole Milk

Sometimes parenting feels like a lot of trial & error. How are we supposed to do tricky things like breastfeeding & weaning? And when all the moms around you seem to not remember how to help kids reach some big milestone, where do you turn? I’m thankful God placed the right woman in my castle’s staff at the right time! Miss CeceJoy is mother to six grown children, so I thought hopefully that she’d probably remember that key piece of information. And sure enough!  She said, “What does he like? Tomatoes, crackers, bananas - okay, yeah, bananas should work! Introduce him to milk by giving him bananas in a little bit of milk. Oh, he drinks water? Well then, just dilute his water with a little bit of milk - and keep increasing the milk portion while decreasing the water portion - eventually it’ll be just milk!”  And she was right! It worked like a charm, and my little Roo’s been guzzling down his whole milk for weeks now!
