How Much We Love God

Image
What’s the measuring stick?  Growing up, I heard there were three possibilities –  loving God & people well (saints in Heaven), loving God well and people poorly (what “good” Christians do),  or loving people well and God poorly (what country/Kentucky people do). But lately, reading the OT prophets with The Bible Recap, I’m noticing different ideas…. * Micah - God’s judgement coming because people are being cruel/hateful to each other  * Isaiah - Lost people and Satan are alike in their pride, anger, & selfish/hateful behavior. God and His children are alike in humility, love, & trust. If you love God, then you’ll love people.  If you don’t love people, then you don’t love God.  It’s as simple as that.

Mocha Volcano Cake

Image
I LAVA YOU!!!  *Cue Disney-Pixar's volcano love-story short film* And I so wanted to make you/us a really nice cake for our anniversary today! https://itsybitsykitchen.com/chocolate-mocha-cake/ Amidst child-rearing & housekeeping & home-educating & hospital-facilitating & everything else. Although I didn't find a legit cake board to put it on, there was a big enough paper plate Bfor the base cocoa/coffee layer. Then the first layer of creamy espresso filling, then the second chocolate cake layer, then another espresso-filling layer, then the final layer of chocolate cake, So far, so good. Next to start with the creamy chocolate espresso frosting - which was too stiff, so I stirred in some milk. But when I started frosting the cake, then the cake started falling apart. And then my 7-year-old started hollering questions and all kinds of stuff, and I'm just like "Please go play! I really need space to focus on saving this cake!" Eventually i...

Can you be too loyal to your spouse?

Image
https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/loyalty-very-important-relationship-wally-horton Excerpts from the article linked above: " Loyalty does not only mean physical fidelity, but it also includes emotional devotion.  Being loyal in every aspect of a couple’s life has many manifestations....  Here are some ways in which loyalty is expressed in love: * Bei ng loyal means being respectful of your partners’ weaknesses and discretely helping them compensate for those weaknesses. For example, if your mate is absent minded and loses her keys often, you may help her set a system to make it easier for her to find things and help her search, when needed, without anger or shaming.   * Being loyal means never saying anything that may shame your mate in private or public. “Well, she told someone she was sick, when she didn’t feel like entertaining.” Though this is a small offense, when it is revealed to others, it is shaming and disloyal.   *Being loyal means keeping confidences, witho...

Thoughts re: Romance

Image
When I was growing up, I read a lot of books about dating & romantic relationships. The one thing that’s stuck with me the most and that’s proved the most profitable is Eric & Leslie Lucy’s ideas on the stages of intimacy (ie, “the two shall become one”): In dating, cultivate spiritual intimacy (friendship).  In engagement, cultivate emotional intimacy (romance).  In marriage, culminate your relationship with physical intimacy (sex).  And then continue to develop all 3 kinds of intimacy/one-ness for the rest of your life! Such a great strategy, with beautiful results! ❤️  For premarital counseling, we went through Focus on the Family’s “Ready to Wed” program. This program guides  soon-to-be-wed  couples through conversations about literally every part of life, which is so important when getting ready to join yourself to another person for life. This way, we entered marriage with, like, zero surprises. We knew each other very well and were best frien...
