How Much We Love God

What’s the measuring stick? Growing up, I heard there were three possibilities – loving God & people well (saints in Heaven), loving God well and people poorly (what “good” Christians do), or loving people well and God poorly (what country/Kentucky people do). But lately, reading the OT prophets with The Bible Recap, I’m noticing different ideas…. * Micah - God’s judgement coming because people are being cruel/hateful to each other * Isaiah - Lost people and Satan are alike in their pride, anger, & selfish/hateful behavior. God and His children are alike in humility, love, & trust. If you love God, then you’ll love people. If you don’t love people, then you don’t love God. It’s as simple as that.

“Pride is the taproot of all sin.” Isaiah 1-4, from The Bible Recap - judgment was coming because of pride & cruelty (loving self instead of loving God & others). “The Lord said: ‘Because the daughters of Zion are HAUGHTY and walk with outstretched necks, glancing wantonly with their eyes’” (Isaiah 3:16 ESV). Where do I struggle with pride? Isn’t it pride when I want life to work according to my plan instead of watching with humble appreciation as God works everything according to His own perfectly-wonderful plan? Today I read 2 Kings 15 & 2 Chronicles 26 (a few days behind in the Bible Recap). Uzziah was a good king because he followed God … until he wasn’t, because he got proud and followed himself. Good things come & good things go, but our good God is there forever. This is something to hold onto! “In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high & lifted up; and the train of Hhis robe filled the temple. Above Him stood the seraphim. … And one called to another and said: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of His glory!” (Isaiah 6:1-3, ESV).
Opposites Attract, Similars Do Too

My parents always said they were drawn to each other because they’re so different from each other and everyone knows that “Opposites Attract.” I did/do see that principle at work some in most of the marriage relationships I’ve witnessed. But Christopher Robin & I are so similar! What happened there?! Then according to the marriage book we’re reading for church this summer, God designs very different people to fall in love and get married. It’s supposed to be a big, beautiful tool of human sanctification … ie, His finishing redemptive work in both spouses’ hearts. So again, where do we fit in all this?! Well, I imagine part of the answer might lie in God granting my heart’s desire for a best-friend marriage. Part of it might be God’s mercy for my disability & anxiety issues. Maybe God knew we’d have plenty of outside craziness in our lives for His refining work, so He graciously allowed us one more comfortable relationship to rest in. Doubtless He had other reasons we don’t unde
